Kelly's Bio
Hi, my name is Kelly, I am a freelance writer and CELTA qualified ESL teacher from the UK. One day, I might even take on the DELTA, though my interests lie in helping individuals rather than managing a staffroom.
I've taught as a private tutor in households, bars and cafes throughout Europe, and in a number of classrooms too, preparing students for all kinds of exams, from locally recognized ones to Cambridge certified tests, such as the CAE and IELTS. I've helped students in the labs, board rooms and offices of some of the largest businesses in Europe, as well as in many SMEs and start-ups. My focus is English for a specific purpose (business, for example) and exam preparation. I am yet to have a student fail an exam!
I am also a freelance writer, working for a variety of clients covering a range of subjects. My main areas in writing—aside from language and travel—are the health and welfare of animals and the environment. It is always interesting to hear opinions on these as they vary so much from country to country, and make for great conversation starters while in the queue waiting for my latest overnight bus, train, or plane to wherever I'm travelling next.
Travelling around Europe has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It's been great moving from city to city, learning about different histories, cultures and cuisines! I've learned I like smaller places off the beaten path more than sprawling cities; it's the best way to really get to know the local people. Though this is also true of countries outside of Europe; it is a far different experience spending time in Jilin in northern China than in Beijing, for example! Above all, the main thing travelling, teaching and writing have taught me is that kindness and compassion are the most important things we can learn.
