Vancouver is world-famous for its beautiful mountainous backdrop and a reputation as one of the most diverse and multicultural cities in Canada. This city of 646,000 people is a welcoming place for citizens and tourists of different countries, cultures and languages from all over the world. In fact, more than half the population of Vancouver speaks a language other than English. One of those languages is French, which ranks within the top ten most spoken languages worldwide. According to the 2016 census, there are around 25,000 people in Vancouver who speak French as a first language. If you would like to communicate with these people, understand menus in French or even travel to a French-speaking country and make the most out of your experience, taking a course with Language Trainers will come in handy.
Learn French for Work & Travel: If you are thinking of taking French courses in Vancouver for professional purposes, you can contact the Vancouver Chamber of Commerce on West 7th Avenue, a non-profit organization that has been helping and supporting French entrepreneurs and businesses in the region for more than 30 years. Every year, their events attract more than 500 entrepreneurs and small business owners. Why not attend and take advantage of this opportunity to network with other businesspeople? Impress them with the language skills you acquire with Language Trainers! Also, learning a second language not only looks good on your CV but is an asset if you are planning to go on a trip to a French-speaking country. Learning French before you travel will make you more confident in both France and any of the other 29 countries where French is an official language.
Learn French for Culture: If you are interested in Francophone culture, then you can get involved and practise French right on your doorstep, here in Vancouver. The Centre Culturel Francophone de Vancouver on West 7th Avenue, for example, regularly hosts events in French, with everything from visual art exhibitions to music concerts held throughout the year. Also, the Festival du Bois, an event that has been organized since 1989, celebrates all things francophone and French-Canadian culture for a whole weekend. For food lovers, there is the annual Goût de France that takes place worldwide, and in Vancouver, is hosted in various venues across the city. This is a celebration of French cuisine that is not to be missed. Taking French lessons in Vancouver will help you get the full experience from all these events!
Learn French for Social: If you are looking to practise your French and make new friends, you can join the Vancouver French Language Meetup Group. You will be able to meet with others in your area who are also interested in the French language. All ages and levels of proficiency are welcome, so don’t be shy and put into use everything you learn in your lessons with us! After a meeting, you may want to take your new friends to a French restaurant, such as Absinthe Bistro on Commercial Dr., where you can taste chicken liver terrine topped with a sprinkle of fleur de sel set atop apple aioli and an onion beet confit. Another nice option for some French traditional food is Le Crocodile on Burrard Street. There, you can order salade nicoise, duck confit and even delicious crème brûlée. Impress your friends and the waiter with your flawless French pronunciation!
Why not join the 220 million French speakers across the world in speaking their language? Contact us to arrange a study program that is tailored to your needs, and we will arrange for a tutor to go to your home or workplace. You can also meet at a public space, such as the Vancouver Public Library on Georgia St., Kafka’s Coffee and Tea on Main St. or Nemesis Coffee on Hastings St.
If you are not based in downtown Vancouver, you should still send us an inquiry. We have language tutors ready to start teaching in Coquitlam, Surrey, Richmond and Burnaby.
